BIO-MI Participates in the University of Applied Sciences of Rijeka Day with a Lecture on Sustainability and Advanced Materials

As part of the University of Applied Sciences of Rijeka Day celebrations on 15 May 2026, Ivona Miketa, General Manager of BIO-MI Ltd., delivered a guest lecture to Entrepreneurship and Information Technology students on the role of advanced materials in sustainable business development.

During the interactive session, students were introduced to the principles of the circular economy, the potential of bioplastics, and the opportunities and challenges associated with the green transition. Through real-world business examples, the lecture demonstrated how innovative solutions are developed and implemented in practice, bridging theoretical concepts with the needs of modern industry.

Particular emphasis was placed on the development of advanced bioplastic materials, from research and laboratory testing to commercialization and industrial application. Students gained insight into the process of creating innovative biopolymer formulations and the role of European research and innovation programmes in accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable economy.

The presentation also showcased examples of international projects focused on sustainable solutions for packaging, agriculture, the food industry, and waste management. These case studies illustrated how scientific research and technological innovation can be transformed into tangible products and market-ready solutions that support the circular economy.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in educating future professionals and sustainability leaders, emphasizing the vital role of innovation, knowledge, and technology in building a more sustainable future.
