BIOMAPS

BIO-MI is proud to be a partner in the European project BIOMAPS – Bio-Intelligent Manufacturing of Multifunctional Bio-Based Polymer Systems, funded under the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101177344).

The BIOMAPS project aims to establish a fully circular manufacturing value chain for next-generation bio-manufactured plastics based on vitrimerised Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). These innovative bio-based polyesters combine mechanical recyclability, biodegradability, durability, and stability, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-based plastics.

Within the project, advanced modelling and artificial intelligence tools are being developed to accelerate the adoption of vitrimeric PHAs in European manufacturing industries. By enabling the replacement of fossil-based materials with high-performance bio-based alternatives, BIOMAPS contributes to the transition towards a more sustainable and circular economy.

The project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of leading European research organisations, universities, technology centres, and industrial partners working collaboratively to strengthen Europe’s leadership in sustainable materials and bio-based manufacturing technologies.
