As part of the new waste collection system recently introduced in the Municipality of Matulji and other municipalities, Komunalac has implemented weekly collection of biodegradable waste. The mayor of the municipality, Vedran Kinkela, emphasized that this system represents a significant improvement in the standard of service and sustainable waste management. Although it was necessary to reduce the number of collections for recyclable waste due to the introduction of four new monthly emptying of bio-waste containers, the municipality continues to provide an above-standard service compared to other municipal systems in the region.
In their efforts to preserve the environment for future generations, the company BIO-MI, which specializes in the production of biological and sustainable plastic materials, is donating 40,000 biodegradable bags to the residents of Liburnija. These bags, which will be available at recycling yards and at the market in Opatija within a month, will enable citizens to participate more easily in sorting and disposing of waste in a sustainable manner. Mayor Kinkela warmly thanked BIO-MI for this generous donation, emphasizing its importance for the local community and the environment.
